What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, where an individual's subconscious mind becomes more open to receiving and accepting suggestions.

We all go in and out of hypnosis throughout our day (triggered by environment, social interactions, anxiety, movies, falling in love, etc.). It’s a state of narrow focus that bypasses the critical mind so we can change negatives to positives.

It’s a deeply relaxed state with eyes closed. Won’t go unconscious or lose control. Always aware (possibly hyper-aware). Hear sounds around you and could never get stuck in hypnosis. Would not do or say anything you wouldn’t do or say in your wide-awake state. Not a truth serum. It involves creating a relaxed state of mind, by a trained hypnotherapist.

The concept of hypnosis is based on the idea that our minds have three aspects - a conscious, a critical and a subconscious aspect. Our conscious mind is responsible for our everyday thoughts, decisions and actions, a critical mind acts like a filter and a protection for the known associations, while the subconscious mind holds our deeper beliefs, memories, and emotions.

Hypnosis aims to access and influence the subconscious mind to bring about positive changes. By bypassing the critical mind, it opens a door to have direct access to the subconscious mind and helps individuals to become more receptive to positive suggestions that influences their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. These suggestions can be used to promote relaxation, alter perceptions, change habits, or address specific issues or concerns.

Hypnosis has the potential in addressing various concerns, including but not limited to enhancing self- confidence, increasing motivation, managing stress and anger, decreasing anxiety, quitting smoking, achieving weight loss goals, exploring pass lives, improving focus, managing test and performance anxiety, addressing fears and phobias, connecting with spirit guides and departed loved ones.

Hypnosis is a well-established therapeutic method employed by many healthcare professionals to assist individuals in resolving their issues and achieving goals. Several famous individuals have utilized hypnosis for various purposes. Here are few notable examples: Albert Einstein - renowned physicist reportedly used self - hypnosis to access his subconscious mind and enhance his creativity and problem - solving abilities, Tiger Woods - the professional golfer has spoken publicly about using hypnosis to improve his focus, concentration, and performance on the golf course, Adele - the Grammy - winning singer has publicly acknowledged using hypnosis to help overcome stage fright and anxiety before performing.

By utilizing hypnotic suggestions, the state of hypnosis is induced, which is characterized by heightened concentration and relaxation, making individuals more receptive to guidance and positive suggestion. This state enables individuals to effectively address their concerns and make progress towards positive outcomes.

Hypnosis, performed by a well - trained hypnotist/ hypnotherapist, is secure and beneficial form of alternative medicine. However, it is important to note that individuals with severe mental illness should exercise caution and hypnosis may not be suitable for them.

The purpose of hypnotherapy is for vocational and avocational self-improvement and as alternative or complementary treatment to healing arts services licensed by the state. A hypnotherapist is not a licensed physician or psychologist, and hypnotherapy services are not licensed by the State. Services are non-diagnostic and do not include the practice of medicine, neither is considered as a substitute for licensed medical or psychological services or procedures.

Hypnotherapists who assist clients with weight loss and/or other health and fitness goals may provide general nutritional advice and/or recommend published books, food guides and health and fitness publications. This is not a substitute for medical advice, and you are advised to seek your doctor’s approval before making any medical/health/lifestyle changes. Hypnosis works with the power of the subconscious mind to change habits and behaviors. The subconscious mind is considered to be the source or root of many of our behaviors, emotions, attitudes and motivations. Hypnosis is believed to be a powerful tool for accessing the subconscious mind and creating improvements in our lives. Services consist of a program of conditioning, including an undetermined number of private sessions, depending on the client’s individual needs. The hypnotist will to the best of his or her ability endeavor to accomplish the objectives of the client’s sessions.

While hypnosis may be an effective technique for many purposes, the effectiveness may vary from individual to individual, and no specific results or progress can be promised or guaranteed. The feelings and experiences one has in the hypnotic state can vary from individual to individual. Many people remain completely aware of everything that is going on while in hypnosis. Some individuals experience a hyper-awareness where sensations are perceived enriched and vivid. The ability to visualize or imagine is often enhanced. A feeling of deep relaxation is common, and some people describe the hypnotic state as an escape from physical tension and emotional stress, while remaining completely alert.

The use of hypnosis could elicit memories of past events which may or may not be literally true. It is possible that events under hypnosis will be distorted or misconstrued. Memories or images evoked under hypnosis are not necessarily accurate and may be a construction or a composite of memories. Without corroborating information, it is not possible to determine whether a specific memory is true or false, even if it seems true to the client. While it is the practice of Hypnotherapists to keep information confidential, information revealed in hypnotherapy is not subject to the psychotherapist-patient privilege. A court may order disclosure of information learned in therapy.
